Who we are:
121 Turnaround was originally created to address the growing need for mentoring support of vulnerable members of the community, with the aim of producing focused, realistic and practical programs to support all areas of integration back into society, education, training, further education, apprenticeships, work experience or family life.
In the last 4 years the service we provide has naturally evolved towards working with children who have various complex needs, Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), social and communication difficulties and anxieties. We support families and provide an inclusive activity based program to suit individual needs and abilities. Sensory needs are often met whilst playing with sand on the beach, messing about in mud, or energy can be expelled whilst bouncing on the trampoline or running through our own wooded area, with our Mentors close by, keeping the children safe and most importantly happy.
How we began:
121 Turnaround was formed in April 2013, in Somerset, by the Lead Consultant Barrie Harding. Barrie had been in the British Army for 10 years, but due to injury in 2006, had to leave his role as Non Commissioned Officer. On leaving the Army, Barrie initially was involved in a 2 year commitment, Volunteering, at the PROMISE Mentoring and Advocacy Service, Somerset, where Barrie learnt communication and mentoring techniques with individuals outside of his military experience. This in turn led the way for him to be employed by Breakthrough, South Gloucestershire Council, as a Senior Mentor. He subsequently set up his own successful Mentoring Business, providing expertise based on the foundations of PROMISE.
